Minutes from the FOP meeting held November 2, 2004 Meeting Called to order at 1930 hrs by Vice President Steve Gardner. Brother Bayot gave the opening prayer. Pledge of Allegiance by all members led by Brother Williams. Roll Call of Lodge #104 Officers by Brother Bemis President Shawn Baab excused absence Vice President Steve Gardner present Second Vice President Matt Snyder unexcused absence Secretary Gerald Bemis present Treasurer Matt Poulton present Secretary’s Report Motion by Brother Bemis to accept the September minutes as posted on the website. Second by many. No discussion. Motion passed. Treasure’s Report Motion by Brother Poulton to accept as read. Second by Sister Hale. No discussion. Motion passed. Legal/Labor Issues Arbitration for Deputy Baab reference his pending grievance regarding the new schedule is pending. We have received memo from the following people wishing to be on the SERB Mediation Board. Shawn Baab Gerald Bemis Matt Poulton Matt Snyder Nate Wilson Dave Concannon Kenny Miller Jeremy Roy Tom Feehan Dennis Krust We will hold an election on November 10, 2004, from 7a.m. until 4 p.m. at D7, D10 and D15 for all road patrol assigned Deputies to vote, to select 6 of the above named 10 candidates. A meeting will follow with OLC Attorney Gwen Callender sometime in later November to prepare for the hearing in December in Columbus. Brother Shively, Brother Brady and Brother Poulton will work the polls. We will request that the members who work the polls be relieved of duty on November the 10th so they will not have to work a double or miss work. We need to start documenting times when districts go below the minimal staffing levels. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed. ALL members of the Sheriff’s Office are encouraged to take an FOP representative with them to ALL Special Investigations interview whether you are the focus or a witness. All it takes is an incomplete answer whether a witness or a focus. You have rights! New Business Motion by Brother Bemis that FOP Lodge # 104 makes a donation to The Thomas Fundraiser in the amount of $2,000.00. Second by many. No discussion. Motion passed. Presentation was made to Mike Thomas of the monies raised at the fundraiser. Old Business: Mike Thomas Fundraiser was a huge success. We would like to thank the Sheriff Vore and all of those the helped make this event a success. Chaplin’s Report Thank-you letter was received from Brother Poulton’s brother-in-law who said the money donated helped put them to where they purchased all of the tools needed. Charitable Contributions Committee Motion by Brother J. Miller to make a $500.00 donation to the family of Deputy Brandy Winfield, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, killed in the line of duty on October 14, 2004. Second by Brother Thomas Discussion. Brother Bayot made a motion to donate $1000. Second by Sister Hale. No further discussion. Motion passed. Membership Joel Epstein – Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Orville Wright - Montgomery County Adult Probation Motion by Brother Bemis to accept the applicant as a member. Second by Brother Williams. No discussion. Motion passed. Social Committee Texas Hold Em Tournament will be scheduled sometime in February. Fish Fry is coming up in March. A date will be chosen at the December meeting. Formal Ball discussed for a September event. Halloween party discussed for an October event. PAC Committee See Bill Bartlett. Building Committee Brother Zurn advised that a clean up would need to take place a week before the Christmas Party. Date to be posted on the website.
