Minutes from the FOP meeting held July 5, 2005 Meeting Called to order at 1930 hrs by President Baab. Brother Snyder gave the opening prayer. Pledge of Allegiance by all members led by Brother Harvey. Second by Motion passed. Treasurer’s Report Motion by Brother Poulton to accept the report as read. Second by Motion passed. Legal/Labor Issues PHYSICAL FITNESS Physical fitness test implemented by management has been revised to only be a part of new hires. The implementation of the physical test must be effects bargained. It will be discussed at contract negotiations in the fall of 2006. SERGEANTS EXAMINATION Management approached the FOP with a new test that they wanted to implement. We agreed to the change pending a Memorandum of Understanding being signed off by both sides. However, management decided it would be best served as a part of contract negotiations as a bargaining tool. INFORMATION MEETING Brother Bergman wanted to know if the FOP would contact the Sheriff to see if he would sit down with ALL of the Deputies and fill them in on his goals and objectives. President Baab advised that it would be best discussed at a Labor/Management meeting. GRIEVENCES Brother Thornton has filed a grievance against management. It is in the process of going to an Arbitrator. New Business Brother Craig Eaton presented items received, FOP T-shirts and a baseball, autographed by baseball superstar Roger Clemmens. Brother Eaton advised that Roger, his Uncle, was in town mowing down the Cincinnati Reds and signed these items. Brother Eaton would like to see the items raffled and the proceeds to go to Lodge #104. President Baab accepted the autographed items on behalf of FOP Lodge #104. Old Business: The Fraternal Order of Police State Conference will be held July 16 through July 19, 2005 in Boardman, Ohio. This year conference is important due to two local candidates running for positions on the State Executive Board. Brother Derrick McDonald, Dayton FOP Lodge #44, is running for Sergeant at Arms, and Keith Fangman, Queen City Lodge #9, is running for Vice President. Chaplain’s Report See Chaplains report on the website. Charitable Contributions Committee Motion by Brother Snyder to donate $100 to the Watson family in Butler County. Amended to $150. No discussion. Second by Brother Harvey. Motion passed. Motion to send Hospice a donation. Tabled by President Baab Motion to renew the FOP.com website for 2 years costing $40.00. Second by Brother Bergman. No discussion. Motion passed. Motion to Donate to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee, to Deputy who was injured in the line of duty. Brother Bemis advised that he spoke with Brother Buns, District 5 State Representative, who advised that Hancock County Sheriff’s Office has taken care of his medical expenses. Motion by Brother Poulton to donate $150 to Kettering’s FOP for retiring Prosecutor Jay Newberry. Second by Many. Discussion. Motion failed. Motion by Brother Bemis to donate a plaque to Jay Newberry on behalf of FOP #104 for year of service to its members. Second by Brother Bergman. No Discussion. Motion passed. Motion to donate one-month house payment to Brother Thornton. Second by many. Discussion. Motion amended to $1000. Second by many. No discussion. Motion passed. Membership NONE Social Committee Fish Fry totals will be forthcoming at the July meeting FOPA Charter packet should be completed by the first week in December. Texas Hold Em Tournament REMOVED due to legal litigation. Formal Ball/Awards Ceremony No interest tabled for 2006. Halloween Party scheduled for October 29, 2005. Children’s Christmas Party scheduled for December 10, 2005.
