Minutes from the FOP meeting held September 6, 2005

Meeting Called to order at 1930 hrs by Vice President Gardiner.

Brother Ridgeway gave the opening prayer.

Pledge of Allegiance by all members led by Brother Bergman.

Roll Call of Lodge #104 Officers by Brother Bemis.

Sheriff Vore addressed the membership prior to the business meeting. Topics included:

  1. Assistance to the southern states

  2. All request for assistance must go through FEMA.

  3. Addressed an email that was forwarded to him and authored by a retiree. The e-mail included:

  • Sheriff Vore running for County Commissioner.

  • The performance of the current Executive Board members.

  • "Uncle Plummer" taking Sheriff Vore’s spot as the next Sheriff.

  • Supporting the next Democratic nominee for Sheriff of Montgomery County by donating money.

Feedback from the membership

Sheriff Vore opened the floor for any questions from the membership.

Short discussion about issues at the Sheriff’s Office by the membership.

Sheriff was thanked for taking the time to address the membership and field any questions we may have had. We invited the Sheriff to return to a meeting with enough advanced notice so that all available members can attend.

Past President Baab swore Brother Gardiner in as the new President of the Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #104.

FOP/OLC presented a plaque to Past President Baab for his hard work and dedication to the betterment of the Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #104

Secretary’s Report

Motion by Brother Bemis to accept the July and August minutes as posted on the website.

Point of order by Brother Bartlett, July and August meeting minutes were not on the website.

Motion amended by Brother Bemis to accept the meeting minutes for July as posted on the website.

Second by Brother Statzer.

Treasurer’s Report

Motion by Brother Poulton to accept the report as read.

Legal/Labor Issues

OLC Representative Mark Drum addressed the membership

Members are not asking for representation in a timely manner. Whether you are a focus or just a witness, please ask for and take representation. One misunderstood answer could result in you becoming a focus.

Labor/Management Meeting

  1. Notification of OLC Representation prior to any discipline being issued.

  2. Physical fitness. This issued will be covered in negotiations of the next contract.

  3. You should not have to submit comp time within 72 hours. If minimum staffing allows, you should be able to submit at least an hour prior to the beginning of your shift.

  4. E-mail addresses for Deputies through Montgomery County. Deputies should have access to the Internet.

  5. FOP will reimburse the County for any charges over the covered amount of the rate plan.

  6. Lateral hires being eligible for specialized positions.

  7. OLC cards with emergency contact names and numbers

  8. MOU given to Vice President Gardiner by Management wanting to     change and specify hours of work.

  9. FMLA/Sick time policy change. This issued will be covered in negotiations of the next contract.

New Business

Brother Statzer requested a list of those members who currently receive the FOP parking pass discount.

Old Business:

Delegates who attended the National Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana report that the National FOP has voted for a per capita increase for membership. This increase will force the local lodges to increase their dues.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Charitable Contributions Committee

Motion by Brother Brady to donate $250 to the SWAT competition hosted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Second by Brother Poulton.

No discussion.

Motion passed.

Motion to renew the FOP.com website for 2 years costing $40.00.

Second by Brother Bergman.

No discussion.

Motion passed.

Motion to donate $250 to Brother Mullenix’s wife, Sherry, who is going to participate in a marathon in California to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation.

Motion amended to $500

Membership Committee

Motion by Brother Bemis to accept these applicants as members.

Social Committee

FOPA Charter packet should be completed by the first week in December.

Texas Hold Em Tournament REMOVED due to legal litigation.

Formal Ball/Awards Ceremony No interest tabled for 2006.

Halloween Party scheduled for October 29, 2005.

Children’s Christmas Party scheduled for December 10, 2005.

PAC Committee

Brother Bartlett spoke of the upcoming November election for Trustee of Harrison Township. He recommended that FOP #104 endorse Dave Woods for Trustee.

Brother Bergman made a motion to endorse Dave Woods for Trustee.

Second by many.

Motion passed.

Brother Bartlett made a recommendation to make a donation to Dave Woods’ campaign fund.

Brother Bergman made a motion to table the donation until the PAC Committee does an audit of their account.

Second by Brother Brady.

Discussion.

Motion passed.

Building Committee

Brother Zurn had nothing to report.

For the Good of the Order

The State of Ohio Fall Board Meeting will be held on November 5, 2005 at the Holiday Inn-Eastgate located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Those members wishing to attend should contact Brother Bemis as soon as possible. Lodging and per diem will be given to those members who attend.

Nominations for the 2006 and 2007 FOP Lodge #104 Executive Board will be held on October 4th meeting. The meeting will start at 1930 hrs.

Motion made by many to adjourn by Sister Haas.
