Legal/Labor Issues

Once again, we are reminding members:

Members are not asking for representation in a timely manner!! Whether you are a focus
or just a witness, please ask for and take representation!! One misunderstood answer
could result in YOU becoming a focus!!!

Contract negotiations are still underway. As soon as the fact finder gives us a report, the contract team will bring it to the membership.

April 18, 2007 the O.L.C. will be hosting a Leadership Seminar from 10-5p at Lodge 104. You must register by the 16th of April. RSVP to Toya at 1-800-367-6524 if you are interested in attending.

Current grievance involving Dep. Aikman is going to Arbitration.

New Business:

The Fifth District meeting was held and Brother Concannon reported back on several issues that were discussed, one being the upcoming election of the National offices of Vice-President and Sgt. at Arms.

The National Conference will be held in Louisville, KY this August. As previously decided, 7 delegates will be attending. Those members are: Brother Concannon, Brother Statzer, Brother Bergman, Brother Gardiner, Sister Gardiner, Sister Haas, and Brother Walters.

Spring Board meeting will be held May 5, 2007 in Huron.

Motion by Brother Bergman to donate $500 to the SWAT Team for the upcoming Special Olympics Torch Run.
Second by Brother Snyder.

Old Business:

Brother Bergman reported that the website will be updated periodically with information about the F & S Harley Davidson Bike Raffle and events where the Bike will be displayed. Tickets are $10 a piece. The drawing will be July 27, 2007. Part of the proceeds will go towards the Scholarship Fund.

The Police Memorial Week in Washington, D.C. is coming up. As previously reported, the Lodge approved the cost of renting a van and gasoline for those members wishing to attend Police Week. Trotwood Police has paid for the cost of the van. Brother Miller made a motion for the Lodge to cover the cost of parking (in addition to the cost of gasoline previously approved) instead of the cost of the van.

Membership Committee

A reminder to all: Only full time law enforcement and retired-in-good-standing members of the Lodge are permitted to be Members of the Fraternal Order of Police. Per Lodge #104’s Constitution:

Article IV
Section VI
Any member of this Lodge who is dismissed, with cause, or resigns from FULL-TIME employment, shall forfeit all rights and claims as a member of this Lodge and shall return any and all membership cards and/or F.O.P. license plate emblems.

The Grand Lodge passed a Resolution concerning the sale of Active Member merchandise and items bearing the FOP insignia. Despite numerous requests from the Grand Lodge, citing officer safety concerns, eBay continues to allow this merchandise to be sold on their site, insisting on their “right to free enterprise”, and apparently is not concerned for the lives of police officers. More information will be provided as soon as we receive an update from the Grand Lodge on this issue.

As a true Member of this Lodge it is your duty to protect the integrity of the Fraternal Order of Police and our jobs. We put our lives on the line every day and, as such, earn the right to display the FOP emblems or plates. Do your part!! Do NOT resell any emblems you have purchased to anyone! Members can only obtain FOP emblems by directly contacting the Secretary now. This may be an inconvenience, but I believe it is the best way to handle this growing concern. Do not forget, all large emblems have serial numbers on them and the name of the person purchasing the emblem is documented. The National Lodge is not only investigating the “wannabes” but also the Members to whom that Emblem was sold!!! The Lodge will keep only a few small emblems in stock (for those with motorcycles). As a result, the Lodge will only be selling/issuing the large emblems with the serial numbers from now on.
