Legal/Labor Issues

Brother Bergman reported the schedule change will take effect on October 18.  If there are any issues feel free to contact a member of the Board.

Brother Bergman advised the Sergeant’s list has expired.  Brother Bergman stated the Union wanted the list be extended, but the Sheriff decided to let the list expire based on past practice.  There will be no promotions at this time.

Brother Bergman reported he has been talking with Chief Nolan about the proposed budget for 2009.  Brother Bergman advised the two vacancies that were left in the courts by Brother Bergman and Brother Brady will not be filled.  Brother Bergman reported the County Commissioners have already advised the Sheriff that they will not pay for the Deputies’ raise for 2009 and are going to cut the Sheriff’s budget by 3%.  Brother Bergman advised the Sheriff has no intention of laying anyone off and may look to create vacancies outside sworn personnel.  There are currently 19 vacancies within the whole department.

Brother Bergman reported he talked to Randy Beane the President of Dayton’s FOP.  Brother Bergman stated that Dayton’s FOP endorsed Mike Tenore for Sheriff.  It was thought that Dayton’s FOP would support our Lodge in the endorsement process.  There will a fundraiser for Sheriff Plummer at Brother Kenny Miller’s residence on October 11.

Brother Bergman reported the Sheriff has been making good on his word by reinstating armed off-duty employment and giving the road deputies a rotating schedule.  Brother Bergman advised new Glocks are being purchased for those deputies who want them.  Brother Bergman advised the Sheriff requested to delay labor management meetings until after the election.

Brother Bergman reported the Fall Board meeting in October 25 in Akron.  Brothers Bergman, Gardiner and Snyder will be attending.

New Business

Brother Bergman reported Brother Brown and Brother Campbell ran the gun raffle, which was successful.  The raffle earned $6,900 profit, which will be used for scholarships and for general costs for the Lodge.  Brother Statzer advised the raffle tickets were put in an envelope and sealed.  The tickets will be kept for 30 days to make sure all winners claim their prizes.  John from Peabody’s has possession of the tickets.

Brother Bergman reported there have been some inquiries about an Associate Lodge.  There has been talk of reinstating an Associate Lodge.  It will probably take a group of people to start the process of having an Associate Lodge.

Old Business

Brother Poulton advised the Lodge’s taxes have been paid.  He also advised the audit has been completed and found no discrepancies.

Chaplain’s Report

Brother Ridgeway reported a thank you card was received from Brother Bergman for the   balloon bouquet that was sent after his surgery.

Brother Ridgeway reported Brother Pittl is a father for fifth time.

Brother Ridgeway reported he ran into Major Laravie at the store and he stated his wife, Ginny, is doing better, but not out of the woods.  They are both seeing more positive things than negative than before.

Brother Ridgeway advised the Christmas party will be coming up.  If anyone has any ideas, talk to Brother Ridgeway.  Brother Ridgeway advised there might be a better turn out if the retirees were involved.  Brother Freedman has an email list for the retirees.

The three estimates are; Vandalia Blacktop-$24,840, Houser-never showed, A-Z in Harrison-$4,652, Star City(Miamisburg)- had not gotten a response yet.  No matter which company the Lodge chooses, there will be four areas that will need to be cut out and re-asphalted.
