Discussion

Passed

Brother Bergman reported the reassignment for those deputies laid off has not had any problems.  Before the layoffs, the Sheriff and command staff personally met with the deputies who were being laid off and were able to answer any questions each deputy met with their new division commander. The Sheriff is still looking into making those laid off, special deputies so that they may keep their commission.   Brother Bergman advised there may be a grievance filed by the OPBA regarding those deputies that were laid off receiving top pay in the positions they were reassigned.

Brother Bergman advised the Sheriff reported the possibility of 2 agencies coming to the Sheriff’s Office for contracts.  One contract would be with the Dayton Municipal Court, which would create 3 positions.  Brother Bergman advised he did not know who the other agency was, but advised that Riverside is not one of the cities in trouble.

Brother Bergman advised there are some new possibilities for creating positions to bring back those deputies laid off.  There is now a contract to put 2 deputies back in the Merrimac Building.  Deputies were removed from the Merrimac Building and the Administration Building because the County was not paying for those positions.  There is also a contract with the Job Center for one deputy.  There are also some downtown businesses that want to have deputies as security and not Dayton PD.   Brother Bergman also advised Sgt Brock has put in his paperwork for retirement.  Sgt. Brock’ retirement was not figured into the plan when the five deputies were laid off.

Brother Bergman advised County Commissioner Deb Feldman did take her pay raise.  Feldman advised she had no choice since it is in a resolution that she receives a raise.  Nothing will be done until it is confirmed that she is receiving the raise and the Sheriff has given his approval.  We are trying to keep a good relationship with the Sheriff and not go behind his back on any issue.

Brother Poulton advised he has received the first two checks for the magic show and will be receiving another one next week.  We may be receiving more money this year than in the past.
