The article advised this would save the Sheriff’s Office $1 million dollars by the end of 2010. The second article stated there would be a $13 million dollar deficit in the county which would equal to a $2.2 million dollar cut for the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff is still trying to work with the sergeants and civilians to freeze their contracts for one year. Brother Bergman stated the County Commission has made statements to the Sheriff they would rather see the Sheriff’s Office run the jail and civil and not have any road deputies. Brother Bergman reported there have been rumors that the City of Dayton has approached the Sheriff on taking over the business district downtown. The Sheriff and Chief Beal have been exchanging words about how to combat crime. There is no official word on whether anything will happen.
